Ullumbana Ceremony at Vinh Phap Pagoda – Nha Trang
Update: 06/08/2014
Ullumbana – the word seems to be very familiar; however, when someone reminds this word, I am pretty, astounded and think of my mother. Mom! This sacred call always makes me be in the state of much thinking. Is it true that in the heart of everybody, Mom is always the most beautiful image: Mom is the native land, Mom is everything.
\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
When mixing myself with pleasure, sadness, difficulties from\r\n“weather conditions†of life that Mom has shouldered, I suddenly realize that\r\nlife is limited but love from our parents is unlimited. For that reason, to\r\npartly express our gratitude and repay that favor to our parents, in the\r\nmorning of August 03rd, 2014 (July 08th, Lunar Horse year), on the instruction\r\nfrom Senior Ven. Thich Chan Tinh and in response of the invitation of Junior\r\nThich Tam Dac - the Abbot of Vinh Phap Pagoda located in Hill 82, Hon\r\nNghe 1 Hamlet, Vinh Ngoc Commune, Nha Trang City - monks of Hoang Phap Pagoda\r\ncame to support the work for the Ullumbana Ceremony.
\r\n\r\n
Being one of the branches of Hoang Phap Pagoda, Vinh Phap\r\nPagoda is in the state of being built, so its infrastructure and material\r\nconditions cause difficulties for holding a ceremony. But with the heart of\r\nduty and the insistence of Buddhists there, the Senior held this Ullumbana Ceremony\r\nfreely.
\r\n\r\n
At 8 o’clock, the ceremony officially began with the ritual\r\nof the six articles for worship respectfully offered by students from\r\nBuddhists’ families. After that was the rite of pinning roses, one of the\r\nindispensable rites, bringing so much happiness for those who have red rose\r\npinned on their chest. Red of longing, red of love, the red has packed\r\naffection, worry, and care in our whole life. Therefore, please keep and never\r\nmake that color be faded! That color will be always vermilion if we understand\r\nour duty as a child, serve and return the merit of our parents. Therefore, do\r\nnot wait until pinning a white rose on the chest, as white as the hair of mom\r\nhaving exposed to the weather – the white of sadness but purity and\r\ncleanliness, the white reminding us to live nobly, honestly to each firm step\r\nin life even though without a mother to be protected and sheltered - to\r\nsuddenly start to utter “I have lost my Mom!â€
\r\n\r\n
At the end of the ceremony was the speech of the Junior\r\nAbbot, the Junior advised Buddhists to remember the bringing up from the\r\nparents as well as keep, cosset the love of parents, never allow until:
\r\n\r\n
Looking at the dim night
\r\n\r\n
Is recalled for mother’s image
\r\n\r\n
The ceremony ended in the joy of everybody. The Buddhists\r\nreturned to their home with a present including a DVD “Ullambana in 2013â€\r\ngranted by Hoang Phap Pagoda.
