Update: 31/08/2015
In the morning Aug 29th, 2015 (on July 16th Lunar Goat Year), in response to the invitation of Abbot Junior Venerable Thich Duc An and the permission of the Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh, the monks of Hoang Phap monastery came to Phuoc Thien pagoda in Neak Loeung commune, Peam Ror town, Prey Veng province, Cambodia to support preparation for Ullumbana ceremony.
At 9 o’clock, the ceremony was officially started. In order to begin the ceremony, Junior Venerable Thich Duc An, Abbot of Phuoc Thien pagoda and also the chief organizer, delivered the speech to open the ceremony. After that, teenage Buddhists single-mindedly offered the six articles for worship to create auspicious conditions on this occasion.
In solemn ritual, the whole bodhimandala stayed calm and recalled parents’ nurture while listenning the speech of meaning of pinning roses. After being silent in a minute to remind Buddha’s great merit, patriarch’s education, parents’ nurture, hundreds of roses were pinned on the shirts of filial people. It was the roses that were dearly comprised of parents’ love to their children and the children’s honor to their beloved parents in return.
As soon as Buddhists wholeheartedly offered ropes to the present monks, the Venerable gave some hearted advice to the whole bodhimandala. On good conditions of Ullumbana season, the Buddha had taught in Ullumbana Sutra. He advised Buddhists to express filial piety to parents both alive and deceased according to Buddhism’s faith.
Moreover, as for far-from-homeland people, they should bear in mind that filial piety was the prime character of Vietnamese. Therefore, wherever they stayed, they should maintain and develop this feature. This was also the way to remember ancestries.
In the end, all perceived this deep and happy moment when good source could spout out. It was the time that parents would be granted invisible presents.
The ceremony was contributed by the presence of singer Dien Dung Son performing “Pinning a Rose†song and My Khanh Hue with “Offering Ropes†song.
By the time, each Buddhist as well as a participant was given a VCD Mendicant for parents.
