Ullambana Great Ceremony 2023 at Lingyin Temple in Taiwan

On the Ullambana season 2023 Buddhist calendar 2567, Lingyin Pagoda (Taipei, Taiwan) solemnly held the Ullambana Great ceremony to make offerings to monks, pray requiem for ancestral spirits, give charity gifts, create good connections to Vietnamese Buddhists currently living, working, and studying in Taiwan.

All participants gathered in the main hall to recite the Sutra Repaying Parents' merit, offer a meal to the Buddha, and souls for lunch. At meal time, the ashram received extraordinary blessings to invite 55 Monks and Nuns who had witnessed and attended the Sangha offering at the pagoda (27 monks and nuns from Vietnam went to Taiwan to work as a translator; 27 monks and nuns are currently studying abroad in Taiwan).

The Ullambana ceremony was officially celebrated with pinning roses, offerings of Dharma robes in Pravaranà season, chanting of Ullambana sutra, and offerings to the dead in the afternoon.

Finally, the mass wholeheartedly offered prayer candles to dedicate merit to the family, parents to be safe, sentient beings to benefit, requiem for ancestors, spirits and hungry ghosts to be satisfied, etc, ... relying on the Three Jewel’ power to reborn to a peaceful realm.

At the ceremony end, practitioners brought all of the items including: food, rice, noodles, candy, milk, children's toys ... to give to the homeless and children at the center caring for orphans.
