Buddhist News of Ven. Thich Chan Tinh
Three Dharma Affairs on One Day in Taiwan
Update: 03/04/2016
In the morning of April 02, 2016, Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh had a talk at Yunlin District, Douliu City, Taichung.
He said: The Buddha taught us that being a human was difficult; knowing Buddhism was even more difficult. Thus, only ones with conditional causation and merits could be closed to the Three Treasures, could listen and practice Buddha’s teaching, like those verses in the sutra below:
Intensive Dharma is wonderful
Which is difficult to search for in thousand of kapas
Knowing this, we decide to follow and recite it diligently
We hope to understand His meaning
In the evening that day, he came to Dai Lam town, Gia Nghia district, Taichung in order to preach to local Buddhists.
He reminded the Buddha’s teaching ofAngutara Nikaya sutra about “Five lossesâ€:
1. Loss of relatives
2. Loss of property
3. Loss of illness
4. Loss of precepts
5. Loss of knowledge
It can be said that losses are the nature of life. What we have today will leave us at any time.
People often console each other by saying that properties have been gone instead of their lives. Loss of property could be regained but loss offamily members was a massive loss, because dead body is never regained and we lose our important fulcrum in life. Illness, affliction can rob us of a part of health and the loss of body was still a serious one. Nevertheless, despite of being important, those losses could only affect this current life.
According to the Buddha’s wisdom, losing morality (moral percepts) and wrong understanding(untrue knowledge) were the serious losses. Inaccurate perception would lead to wrong behaviors, which resulted in a decadent world: animal, evil and hell.
Therefore, Buddhists should be deeplyawareof the Buddha’s teachings, always established and maintained moral foundation by keeping 5 percepts. More importantly, Buddhists must perceive knowledge and their attitudes of life which is based on right understanding in order to see and know the truth, believe deeply in karma, do good things, avoid the bad one, mutually love and share misery and loss each others.
In the evening, Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh hold ceremony for Buddhists at Mrs. Luu Bich Van’s house - in Yongkang District, Tainan City, Taiwan, to take refuge in the three Precious Ones, keeping the law and accepting the five commandments.
