Summer Retreat
The Sixth Day of the Summer Retreat - Land of the spirits.
Update: 12/07/2015
The time still pass hastily, the last days of the retreat is coming.
After nearly a week of cultivation and living in here, students learnt the right things and experienced about the life values. They also chose the firm lands of spirit at which they were able to come back and depended on it before a long journey ahead.
We received a lot of things in this life, but we did something to repay that kindness and affection. Venerable Thich Tam Tien wholeheartedly gave a preaching on the topic was "Giving a bit favor to life" to students in order to look back themselves.
He hoped that thank to the retreat, they learnt a lot of knowledge and valuable experience as well as applied the Buddha teachings into the society to have a meaningful life. There were four important things that they need to practice and learning: Recognize mistakes, Patience before the dislikes, Understand and forgive the mistakes and Have a pure mind to look back themselves.
In the afternoon of the same day, Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh who is the abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda and monks of pagoda took part in the program and taught rules for them. More than 1,000 students took refuge in the Three Jewels and kept five precepts in this retreat.
At the ceremony, Sen.Ven praised the students' spirit when they found and learnt the spiritual root of the nation. The Buddha taught: "Being a human body is difficult, understanding Dharma and taking refuge are more difficult." Although students were young, went to the temple for cultivation and took refuge. That was a laudable thing.
In the world, there were many religions, but all of them did not always teach people looking for the truth - the good - the beautiful to bring benefits to themselves and people around. There were some religions which only brought suffering and unhappiness to people, had aims to master the world. The Buddhism with thousands of years history do not have the uprisings like that, just hoped to bring the happiness, peace and to all beings.
For Vietnamese, a nation had the spiritual roots of Buddhism, our ancestors were Buddhists, Buddhist doctrines were impregnated into the thoughts of Vietnamese. Therefore, taking Refuge of the young people was a right thing, not for love or money or other reasons to lose conscience, ideals and the spiritual roots of nation.
In addition, they also listened to the basic concept as Taking Refuge, the Triple Jewel, Expiation , Upasaka - layman, Upasika - laywomen, five precepts and so on.
By their the belief for seeking Buddhism and their one-pointed mind, they received the three rules and the five precepts known as the five basic principles to be a human and officially become a true Buddhist.
The ceremony ended in the whole joy of all students.
