One time, Sakyamuni visited Kosala people, in the town of Kalama, at Kesaputta .
 

Right belief

 

Then they went to worship, sat down on one side,\r\nand said that:

\r\n\r\n

- There were a number of Sramana, Brahma\r\ngoing to Kesaputta. They clarified and brightened their views\r\nbut they ostracized, scorned, criticized and distorted\r\nothers’ views. We have doubts and worry of these\r\npeople. Who told the truth; who told untrue words?

\r\n\r\n

- Kalama, does not hurriedly believe in\r\nanything legendary. Do not hurriedly believe in anything traditionally. Do\r\nnot hurriedly believe in anything handed down by sutras. Do not hurriedly\r\nbelieve in anything metaphysically. Do not hurriedly believe in anything right\r\nwith one view-point. Do not hurriedly believe in anything suitable for prejudice.\r\nDo not hurriedly believe in anything origin from the authority. Do not\r\nhurriedly believe in anything the Sramana being your Master, talked the words.”

- Kalama, when you thoroughly know: “This Dharma is immoral\r\nand guilty; this Dharma is criticized by intelligent people; if this Dharma is\r\naccepted, they will lead to unhappiness and suffering, you should abandon them.\r\nKalama!”

“Kalama! When you clearly know: This Dharma is good and no\r\nsin; this is praised by intelligent people; if this Dharma is accepted, they\r\nwill lead to happiness and peace, and you should be attained and dwelled.\r\nKalama!”

Common habit is something of self of relating to self that\r\nis always achieved. Shadow of the ego does always cover and hide the awareness\r\nof the truth, which is an original point leads to misery. Therefore, that we\r\nattempt to clarify our views and standpoint to ourselves promote what belongs\r\nto us is a normal thing of the world. However, in parallel with protecting our\r\npoint is such a judgment, along which we ostracize and scorn others’ views,\r\nparticularly, advanced point that is a bad thing, a clear manifestation of the\r\nego-grasping, fanaticism and delusion.

\r\n\r\n

According to Sakyamuni ’s wisdom, for every opinion, thought\r\nshould be cautious and overall reexamined. Although doubt is one of affliction\r\nthat hinders the Noble Path, in thought, suspicion is a manifestation of wisdom\r\nfor "great skepticism means great realization". Following doubt will\r\nbe a firm belief that the route of right belief and pure faith of Buddhists.\r\nWithout doubt, reconsideration and blind confidence, we are in superstition,\r\nextremely mindlessness and ignorance.

\r\n\r\n

In Sakyamuni’s opinion, He never ruled and forced everyone\r\nto believe but encouraged his disciples to discuss and consult his teachings.\r\nDharma’s belief from his disciples is achieved after observing, thinking and\r\nexperimenting. In particular, when we realize that it is good things, without\r\nguilt. Practicing to bring happiness, joy, and intelligent people accept it. We\r\nshould believe, attain and abide in it. If this is useless, we absolutely\r\nabandon it.

\r\n\r\n

  Belief must be accompanied with wisdom that is\r\nright belief. Buddhists do not believe anything in a hurry, but they just\r\nbelieve after practicing anything that brings happiness, joy for us and for\r\nothers, at present and the future.
