Repentance ceremony on Dec. 14th, Year of the Tiger

On Jan. 05th, 2023 (Dec. 14th, Year of the tiger), men and women Buddhists inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend the periodical penitential ceremony.

Before the rite, Junior Thich Tam Huynh, monks of the pagoda gave a dharma talk named The moral principles of Husband and Wife.

During the lecture, the monk repeated the Buddha's teachings on the principles of family conduct, responsibilities and obligations between husband and wife to build a happy and harmonious family.

In which, five duties and responsibilities of a husband towards his wife: 1. Being polite and reasoned; 2.  Loyalty; 3. Assigning housework to his wife; 4. Buy jewelry; 5. Do good housework with his wife.

Along with that are five duties and responsibilities of a wife towards her husband: 1. Being polite and reasoned to her husband; 2. Well perform their obligations (behave skillfully with the husband's parents, children, friends, and relatives); 3. Being faithful to her husband; 4. Preserve the property for her husband; 5. Ingenious in all work.

In addition to the above principles, marriage has long-term happiness and strong harmonious relationships in the present life and in the future, between husband and wife need to be similar in terms of faith, precepts, generosity, wisdom and cultivation.

Next, the Buddha also taught that there are 7 types of wives: wife like a thief, wife like a murderer; wife as mistress; The wife is like a good mother, the wife is like a sister, the wife is like a companion, the wife is like a servant. The basis to be a good wife is understood as a person who has the qualities of a mother, a friend, a sister, and a servant. Those virtues are considered as a wife with personality and virtue to bring happiness to the family; On the contrary, the types of those who are thieves, mistresses, and murderers are not good wives and can hardly bring happiness to their husbands and children by themselves.

After the dharma talk, the mass started the penitential ceremony as usual.
