One Day Retreat in Can Tho
Update: 23/03/2022
In the approval of Most abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Hue, Monks and devout Buddhists returned to Minh Chat retreat in Can Tho to attend for 1st One Day Retreat on March 20th, 2022 (Feb. 18th, LC).
The monks guided prostration rituals, greeting, raising the bowl to offer rice, walking to recite the Buddha's name, and chant precepts.
Next, Junior Thich Tam Hong had a dharma talk on the topic named Study in following tiger's symbols.
The first conduct: on the path of cultivation, each person learns to live independently:
- Think independently, believe in ourselves, and try to learn.
- Act independently: financial independence, not being easy on ourselves, self-advocacy, saving money, planning for ourselves, thanking those who have helped us.
- Take control of our life: learn to balance our finances, get used to acting alone, and be patient. In this process, we will encounter many obstacles and challenges; Therefore, we should be strong to conquer ourselves, practice diligently to achieve peace and deliverance.
The second conduct is to protect oneself when six senses contact with six objects outside, they will generate emotions of joy and sorrow, as well as the mind of love and hate. Ex: one will run after, find ways to possess when love it; on contrary, one will find a way to banish and eliminate when hate it. As a result, one is immediately dominated by greed, hatred, and delusion if these six senses are not controlled.
The Honored One used the image of a turtle to tell its protection against a wild animal, as pulling its head, tail and four legs into its shell, hiding it more carefully, holding it firmly, the more secure the turtle is; Cultivating the senses as the same, we are still seeing, still hearing, but seeing is just seeing, hearing is just hearing, not letting the distinction between love and hate interferes. Keeping the mind like that is called to protect ourselves.
In the afternoon, monks and Buddhists walked in recitation of the Buddha name and meditated in silence, then offered food to spirits.
At the end of the practice day, On this occasion, monks gave dharma gifts, including the books "Lessons for Buddhists", “Good Examples in West and East” and Dharma milk in the morning from the Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda to Buddhists.
