Retreat for Students
One-Day Retreat for Students
Update: 12/10/2015
On October 11th, 2015 (August 29th, Goat Year) over 1,000 students from universities – colleges in Ho Chi Minh City gathered in Hoang Phap Pagoda to take part in a cultivation day for students towards the Buddha’s Dharma.
After breakfast, they gathered in the main hall to together listen to Senior Venerable Thich Quang Thien, the abbot of Tinh Quang Pagoda, member of The Central Propagation Board, the professor of Immediate & Advanced Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province.
Hearts and brains, which symbolize emotion and knowledge, are the two important parts of a person. We all need to have a heart of love not to be emotionless and indifferent in life. Besides, we also need to have knowledge and wisdom to know what is right or wrong.
Being born into this life means that we are not able to avoid the concepts of winning, losing, being better, and being worse, and the thing is we know how to accept risk in a calm and alert way. There are things that we are not able to keep. Believe that when one door close, there will be another door open. Don’t be sunk in failure. Create your own causes and conditions instead. Take advantage of Buddha’s advice and apply it to life to create a solid foundation in your living journey.
After the lecture, those students raised questions around the subject and the Venerable answered in a compassionate and delightful way.
In the evening on the same day, the students and the monk recited the Buddhist sutras “A person with white shirtâ€. Next, the students are shown the method to practice meditating. From then, they get insights into the method of reflecting to dissolve the difficulties in their daily life.
