One Day Retreat for Student
Update: 11/10/2020
Over 400 students from colleges and universities in Ho Chi Minh City assembled at Hoang Phap Pagoda to attend the "One Day Retreat for Students" on Oct. 11th, 2020 (Aug. 25th, LC).
Before that, in the lecture hall on the evening of Aug.10th, 2020, all participants had a meeting of collective activities, entertainment, and interviews with the monks. The monks answered the questions about relationships, behavior, and proper understanding of the meaning of self-love. They have raised their own thoughts in advance about the matter of Buddhism on social media and marriage with different religions.
In the morning, the monks instructed them on how to meditate with the time of quiet sitting, which is guided from Junior Thich Dao Tin. After having breakfast, they swept the leaves together around the temple yard. Next, all learners have time to recite the sutra of Little Karma of discrimination - the different conditions leading to the difference in human life.
There was a game show Dau Tri Nguoi Tai (Intellectual contest between talented people) at Dharma wheel Building. The program consists of four rounds of competitions: vow of Bodhicitta, spiritual practice, diligence and enlightenment for the four teams. Before starting, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Thuc had a few statements about the meaning of the contest. When we understand the doctrine, the pure belief, and deeply believe in cause and effect, we will have a solid life. The attendees responded enthusiastically, excitedly, and quickly demonstrated their follower's understanding of the Dharma.
In the afternoon, practitioners gathered at the Dharma wheel Building to listen to a dharma from Junior Ven. Thich Dat Ma Huy Bao, by the topic SMILE… Suffering. A smile is a natural reflex, an act of expressing one's relaxed state, However, there are things that suddenly happen that make us unable to control our emotions, we smile again at the pain that others are suffering. Junior Ven. wants to emphasize the act of wasting money and time for useless games of young people as if we are laughing at the suffering of our parents. With touching stories, the monk wants all learners to understand the real value of the money, to use it properly so as not to betray their parents' hearts; Do not despise or laugh at the pain of others, otherwise we will take suffering.
Before leaving, all attendees received the gift of dharma such as the book of Awakened hearts.
