After having breakfast, all Buddhist were solemnly seated at\r\nthe lecture hall to listen to a dharma talk preached by the Junior Thich Tam\r\nLuyen on the topic “Five typical characteristics of Buddhism”. By simple and\r\nclose words familiar to daily life, he explained deeply dharma teachings and\r\nexplained exactly the important parts of Buddhism. Those were the nature of humanity,\r\nequality, non-ego, compassion and wisdom.

\r\n\r\n

The nature of humanity: Buddhism selects human being as the\r\nbase. The Buddha appreciates human beings’ ability because they can implement\r\ngood deeds as well as inherit good results. Meanwhile, He also told that\r\npeople, who make their decision, must take responsibilities for their evil\r\nactions and must endure those suffering consequences, but no one can replace\r\nfor their own.

\r\n\r\n

The equality: On the Buddhism’s sutras, all beings,\r\nfrom human to animals as tiny insects which attain the same potential ability,\r\nwhich is to become a Buddha (Buddha nature). However, because of own characters\r\nof each kind, that ability proceeds difficultly or easily, fast of slowly. This\r\nsummarizes the Buddha’s teachings: “I became a Buddha; others will be the\r\nfuture Buddhas”. It is the foundation establishing the entire equality in\r\nBuddhism.

\r\n\r\n

The character of non- ego: The spirit of non – ego and\r\naltruism is the most important point helping the Buddhism develop and exist\r\nwhen it joins in any other countries. This point itself is the one of the\r\nfoundations creating Buddhism life to exist long with historical evolution of\r\nhumanity as well as any time; Buddhism always appears in the source of\r\nhappiness and peace for humankind. Thus, when we recognize the real nature of\r\nour body being presenting in this life as understanding the things to be named\r\non Me, Myself, My Own, which is fragile, unstable, changeable. When we are\r\nconscious about that, the walls of selfishness will be fallen down, the border\r\namong personalism will be connected, the generosity and tolerance will be\r\nshined brightly in the mind and we are ready to forgive the mistakes made. As a\r\nresult, the happiness is a real existence on this globe.

\r\n\r\n

The mercy and wisdom: The compassion and pity are the\r\nmajor factors establishing the Buddhism because: “the compassion is offering\r\nhappiness and peace to all beings; the pity is helping people release\r\nmiseries”.  From this meaning, Buddhism has a spirit of tolerance,\r\nsympathy and forgiving. We are living on the age that power and position\r\ncontrol human, and ambition is broken out extremely. Because of the lack of\r\nwisdom and being dominated by permanent aggression, battles are occurring\r\ncontinuously, the competition of economy, politics, and military are occupied\r\nall over the world. The revenging fire is spreading all globes. Therefore, the\r\nkindness and wisdom are always connected. Because of wisdom, the source\r\ncompassion spring pours out; thank to compassion spring that wisdom tree will\r\nbloom flowers. Thus, there is only application on the loving heart of Buddhism\r\nthat can reduce sufferings humankind has caused together.

After preaching, the mass began the course of walking and\r\nchanting the Buddha’s names.
