One-Day Practice
After having breakfast, all Buddhists came to the lecture halls of Dharma Wheel Building to begin reciting the Buddha name, walking meditation and chanting precepts.
After the ritual, all practitioners listened to a Dharma talk about the great ceremony’s meaning, reviewing Shakyamuni Buddha’s life, preached to Buddhists by Most Master Thich Chan Tinh - Hoang Phap Pagoda.
Reminding Buddhists to pay their respect for the Buddha Birthday, the Most encouraged each family should hang flags, banners, decorative lanterns, garden Lumbini, etc.
Buddhists should have vegetarian, reflect on ourselves, repent, correct bad habits, renew our bodies and minds, and fully observe five precepts (no killing, stealing, adultery, lying, drinking wine); guiding people to know the Dharma, doing good deeds, sharing peace and happiness with all human beings.
After the practice, Senior Thich Quang Thien - Head of the Buddhist Legal Department of District 12 - Lecturer of Buddhist Schools inside and outside the City, Abbot of Tinh Quang Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City came to the lecture hall to preach a Dharma talk to all attendees.
Commemorating the Buddha's Birthday, the Senior reminded the mass to diligently study, do good deeds, and transform their bodies and minds to show their gratitude to Him.
Practitioners who have recited Buddha's name to seek rebirth in the Pure Land need to be fully equipped with self-reflection: faith, vows, and practice; In everyday life, practice letting go of attachment and taking control of our life.
“Though one should live a hundred years
lazy, of little effort,
yet better is life for a single day
strongly making effort.”
Dhammapada 112 – Chapter of Jungle
The Venerable preached the story of Bhikkhu Sappadasa in the Dhammapada Story, Chapter VIII: Jungle, story number 11 "The Razor Blade". He cleverly shows the benefits of being diligent with our best. Especially when death approaches, Buddhists need to direct their minds to good dharma, keeping a clear mind and choosing the best way for yourself.
In daily life, each person needs to try to achieve three-dharma:
- Achievement of Maha Prajna: wisdom to clearly understand the truth of life (wisdom), thereby behaving well in all situations, having sympathy and sharing with those around you.
- Achieving unhindered great compassion (compassion).
- Attaining strong endurance (courage).
After reciting the Buddha name in the afternoon, Buddhists practiced sitting meditation quietly.
Before leaving the temple, Buddhists received book gifts.
