Good men and believing women everywhere gathered at Hoang Phap pagoda to attend One-day Practice on Sep. 17th, 2023 (Aug. 03th, LC)
After having breakfast, all Buddhists came to the lecture halls of Dharma Wheel Building to begin reciting the Buddha's name, walking meditation and chanting precepts.
After the ritual, Senior Thich Quang Thien - Head of the Buddhist Legal Department in District 12, Lecturer at Buddhist schools inside and outside the City, Abbot of Tinh Quang Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City came to the lecture hall to preach a dharma talk to the attendees.
1. Mind precedes all knowables,
mind's their chief, mind-made are they.
If with a corrupted mind
one should either speak or act
dukkha follows caused by that,
as does the wheel the ox's hoof.
2.Mind precedes all knowables,
mind's their chief, mind-made are they.
If with a clear, and confident mind
one should speak and act
happiness follows caused by that,
as one' shadow ne'er departing.
(Dhammapada)
From the two sutra above, the Senior taught about the practice of three karma of body, speech and mind, including:
+ Body: Do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery.
+ Speech: Don't lie, don't add or subtract, don't use double-tongued words, don't say evil things.
+ Mind: Not greedy, not angry, not delusional.
When a practitioner keeps all three karmas of body, speech and mind pure, it means he has 10 good karma.
The Venerable reminded all listeners to know how to use wealth and property properly to benefit themselves and others; meanwhile, behave skillfully in life to bring peace and happiness.
Finally, he hopes each practitioner will reflect on themselves, and see which mind comes from every word, thought, and action. Understanding and deeply believing in cause-effect does not mean the result does not come, but when the result comes, we pay it gently and joyfully. Let's practice and apply Buddha's teachings in life so that when good things come, we don't get too happy, or when bad things come, we don't get discouraged. No matter what situation each person is facing, practitioners still stand firm and overcome it gently. At the end of the sharing session, the Venerable reminded, practitioners in the last years of their life must always keep their minds pure, rejoice in the Three Jewel, and direct their minds to the Buddha, these ones will have good directions for the rebirth.
After reciting the Buddha name in the afternoon, Buddhists practiced sitting meditation quietly.
Before leaving, Buddhists received a gift of Dharma.
