On the 7th day in the 103rd Retreat of Aug. 31st, 2024, Senior Thich Tri Hue, Standing Member of the Central Dharma Propagation Board, Abbot of Phap Tang pagoda, HCMC preached a Dharma talk named Destroying suffering from the mind in Wheel Dharma Building's Main Hall.
Prince Siddhartha gave up his luxurious palace, beautiful wife and children to seek the truth with the sole purpose of helping sentient beings end suffering and escape the cycle of birth and death. After 6 years of asceticism in the jungle, 49 days and nights of meditation under the Bodhi tree, he found enlightenment. The first sermon he preached was the Four Noble Truths of suffering. He realized that sentient beings suffer in three parts physical suffering, mental suffering and environmental suffering.
In which, mental suffering is the origin. The mind leads to suffering because of attachment, ignorance, afflictions, and wrong views. Suffering is not caused by this mind itself but by the mind receiving feelings from the senses’ objects.
People who want to escape suffering often use methods to correct mistakes. For the great wisdom, He teaches the cessation of suffering must come from the origin of suffering, it comes from the mind.
The Venerable taught in detail the methods to protect and transform the mind to eliminate suffering. Practicing thoroughly according to the Dharma, the practitioner will have peace in the present life, and in the future be born into a peaceful realm.
