On Feb. 04th, 2023 (Jan. 14th, LC), devout Buddhists came to Hoang Phap Pagoda to sightsee, worship to Buddha, and pray for peace in the New Year.
On this occasion, Vice Abbot at Hoang Phap Pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Tri had a dharma talk to the mass on the topic "Five Dharma being hard to gain in life".
We often go to the temple to worship Buddha, praying for health, peace and happiness are the legitimate wishes of every human being in the new year. This wish only stops at making a wish, it will be very difficult to achieve.
By the suttas, the Buddha taught five dharma that led to fulfillment, joy, and satisfaction of longevity, beauty, happiness, good reputation, and rebirth in heaven in life, but these are hard to find in this world. Those are not by the cause of the request, the desire that is obtained.
From this, the monk pointed out Buddha's teachings on the methods to accomplish these dharma, as following:
- Longevity: keep precepts not to kill; release creatures; loving - kindness; eat and drink in moderation; and live a holy life.
- Beauty: control and destroy anger, no hatred, practice loving-kindness, rejoicing in people's good deeds.
- Happiness: cultivate a good mind; preserving five precepts; eliminate jealousy, envy; cultivate a pure body, speech and mind.
- Good reputation: do good deeds, speak pleasant words, benefit ourselves and others, support Three Jewels.
- Being born in heaven: giving alms, keeping precepts, doing good deeds, making offerings.
Finally, the Junior added instructions, if each practitioner strictly adheres to these dharma: complete precepts, perseverance, inner calm, uninterrupted meditation, full contemplation - conduct, likes to live in chastity abodes… these dhamma are accomplished, wishes are immediately achieved.
The Dharma talk ended in joy of the mass in the new year.
