Buddhist News of Ven. Thich Chan Tinh
Dharma Talk at Chan Khong Zen Monastery and Bo De Meditation Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Update: 31/10/2016
In the morning of Oct 29, 2016, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh had a Dharma talk at the Chan Khong Zen Monastery in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
During the session, he talked about the Five Subjects for Frequent Recollection for all Buddhists to reflect in the whole life as following:
* I am subject to aging. Aging is unavoidable.
* I am subject to illness. Illness is unavoidable.
* I am subject to death. Death is unavoidable.
* I will grow different, separate from all that is dear and appealing to me.
* I am the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and live dependent on my actions.
From this point of view, the Venerable indicated the impermanence and temporariness of human life and advised Buddhists to diligently practice to have peace and ease in the current life and accumulate merits for the better after-lives. However, most people in this world often passionately enjoy the dreamy material life, are immersed in the cycle of birth and death. Not so many people are awakened enough to recognize the Truth of impermanence, no-self and the endless samsara. Furthermore, when getting misery, the results of their bad deeds, they often blame others and this world without recognizing they themselves are the cause of such dooms.
In the evening, at Bo De meditation hall in Honolulu, the Venerable explained the meaning of taking refuge in Triratna for lay people to remind them the Buddhism fundamentals as well as their duties for themselves and Dharma. In order to gain the real benefits, the Buddhists should have the right- view, be eager to listen to and learn Dharma to find the proper practicing method. Besides, Buddhists should be close with the good and virtuous friends/teachers, shy away from the evil ones, follow Buddha’s teaching on the Path to the Liberation and Enlightenment.
Ending the lecture, the Venerable presented the DVD film:†Searching for the Enlightenment†to the audience as the Dharma gift.
