Buddhist News of Ven. Thich Chan Tinh
Dharma talk at Amitabha ashrams - Hanoi
Update: 16/06/2016
On the morning of June 15th, 2016 (May 11th lunar calendar), Venerable Thich Chan Tinh visited and lectured to Buddhists of Amitabha ashrams at Lay Buddhist Tri Hanh’s home, Nguyen Hoang Ton St., Tay Ho Dist, Hanoi.
In the Dharma talk, Venerable mentioned three issues:
1/ Respect of Buddhism Sangha
Buddhists should respect Sangha because it is one of the Triratna. Do not take some individuals’ mistakes as the reason for isolating yourself from Sangha, Pagoda, learning Buddhism and practicing. Sangha is a harmonic and pure association. Buddhists should take refuge in the Sangha due to its virtues and keep away from those of them who break the Sangha’s rules.
2/ Buddhism studying
Buddhists should study Buddhist Dharma as much as possible. Do not restrict your studying or chanting to one sutra only. Thanks to studying and listening more, we can widen our knowledge and wisdom at best. In the four universal vows, there is a saying: "I hereby vow to study the boundless Dharma Gatesâ€. Or sutra on the Eight Realizations of the Great Beings, there is a statement: "Widely study and listento promote wisdom and succeed in eloquence ". So we, the Buddhists, should diligently read and chant sutras/books to deepen our wisdom.
3/ Enhance compassion
We, Buddhists, do not only practice for our own benefits but also for everybody’s, especially the close ones such as parents, husband/wife, children/Grandchildren and friends.
After enlightenment, Shakyamuni Buddha travelled across India for Dharma preaching. We should follow Buddha’s example in practicing. We should commit ourselves to be the Dharma preacher propagating common truth to everyone, so that Buddhism can be everlasting, humanity is nourished with Dharma which brings peace and happiness to all beings.
At the end of the Dharma talk, the Venerable offered each Buddhist a book: “How To Achieve Happiness In Life."
