Buddhist News of Ven. Thich Chan Tinh
Dharma Preaching at Co Lam Pagoda and Buddhist Khanh Minh’s Residence in United States
Update: 03/10/2016
On Oct 01, 2016, the Venerable Thich Chan Tinh conducted the One-Day Retreat at Co Lam pagoda, Seattle, Washington, USA.
In the morning, he guided the etiquette for Buddhist and reviewed Buddhism fundamentals as the meaning of taking refuge in Triratna, the Five Precepts to the mass.
In the afternoon session, the Venerable shared the brief of Buddhism activities of Hoang Phap pagoda as Seven-Day Retreat program from the beginning version to the current one, other events and achievements. It’s been a long journey with lots of efforts from monks in Hoang Phap pagoda, who have devoted their lives to tirelessly preach Dharma, overcome challenges and tough situations. Such efforts in turning the Dharma wheel have consolidated and expanded Buddhists’ belief, given commoners the right understanding of Buddhism.
In the evening, the Venerable had a talk at Buddhist Khanh Minh’s residence. He shared that being human is difficult but meeting with the true Dharma is extremely difficult as per the story of the blind turtle in Samyutta Nikà yasutra. That turtle repeatedly resurfaced after every one hundred years. Hence the opportunity for it to timely reach and shelter in the vesicle of a floating tree passing by in the vast ocean was terribly rare. So is the chance being born as human being! Thus we should respect the current precious time and practice for the reincarnation in one of the joyful worlds as the realm of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Devas, or at least human being again with lots of accumulated merits. We should also get the opportunity learning and cultivating our mind with the true Dharma, the best treasure in life; as per Buddha’s teaching in Dharmapada - Verse 115: “Better it is to live one day seeing the Supreme Truth than to live a hundred years without ever seeing thatâ€. Understand this meaning, Buddhists should more diligently practice with the strong will benefiting him/herself and sentient beings.
