Buddhism Activities in Korea

This morning Sep 01, 2017 (Jul 11, lunar calendar) based on the invitation from Buddhists in Incheon, South Korea, Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh and monks of Hoang Phap Pagoda come to Korea to celebrate Ulambana ceremony for oversea Vietnamese Buddhists there.

The delegation arrives at Incheon International Airport at 07:20 local time and, right at the arrival lounge, gets the warm welcome from Vietnamese Buddhists and Deputy Abbot Teahyu of Yaksasa pagoda where the delegation will stay during its Buddhism trip and hold Ulambana ceremony for Vietnamese ashram in Incheon, South Korea.

After leaving the airport, the delegation drops into Gilsangsa pagoda in Seongbuk-gu district, Seoul, to visit and have lunch.

Gilsangsa used to be a Daewongak-restaurant before being a pagoda. The owner of this restaurant had donated this property to form a pagoda that opened in 1997. Despite its young history, Gilsangsa locates in a convenient position in central Seoul attracting many domestic and international visitors. The pagoda is more likely a Buddhism cultural space of the city with many interesting programs/events as sharing practice experience, classes on Buddhist doctrine, ... Zen master Phap Dinh (the late abbot of this pagoda) is a person who has made great contributions to Korean Buddhism with many meditation courses, writings and texts (of sutra) he has compiled. He used to deliver Dharma talk at Christian Churches ...

After leaving Gilsangsa pagoda, the delegation comes to Yaksasa Pagoda meeting with Abbot Hwaung. Moved by the solicitude of Yaksasa Sangha, Senior Venerable Thich Chan Tinh expresses his deep gratitude to the abbot and the monks of Yaksasa for their facilitation and supports to Buddhism activities of Vietnamese ashram (as practice, learn Buddhism…) at the pagoda.
