Junior Thich Tam Huong - Abbot of Suoi Phap Pagoda shared the sermon "How to pray for peace in a new year" before entering the ceremony.

Passing an old year full of challenges and difficulties, all of us should put aside the old stories and celebrate the Spring, everyone has many dreams and hopes for a new year. In early spring, we often visit pagodas and worship Buddha with sincere wishes to have lots of joy, family peace and success in life. These are legitimate needs, consistent with daily spiritual activities. For this prayer for peace and burning incense to be meaningful, we should properly understand "What is praying for peace?" Because when we understand correctly, we can apply, practice and reap benefits.

What do prayers for peace and contentment mean? The word "cau" means to hope, or wish for. ''An'' means peace, without sadness. So, praying for peace means wishing to have peace without worry or anxiety.

According to the basic point of view of Buddhism, people who want to have peace and contentment must understand and believe in cause and effect first; must practice five basic principles that the Buddha taught: do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not lie, do not use of intoxicants. Because those mistakes lead to insecurity; on the contrary, if we, our relatives, and everyone can keep five basic precepts above, we will make ourselves safe. In the sutra, the Buddha taught: I do not give bless, or bring disaster to anyone. The Buddha is only a teacher who points out the path to peace and happiness for us to follow; so, we are the ones who will create tranquility, or instability for ourselves.

Let's be diligent in doing good deeds to benefit others, ourselves and spread the Dharma to everyone around us so that everyone can go on the path of joy in the new year.
