The 2nd Scholarship Program’s Essay

\r\n\r\n

I am Nguyen Thi Mung, who is a senior of Biosciences, the\r\nUniversity of Natural Science, Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City.\r\nI was born in Nghe An. Im more fortunate that many peers to study\r\ncontinuously. There are six members in my family. In 2007, my father died\r\nsuddenly, leaving a burden to my mother who has been bringing up six children\r\nwho were in school age and a newborn baby. Probably, I was born in a farming\r\nfamily, in which my childhood existed in an early strenuous life on fields. Therefore,\r\nI have looked mature than temporary young boys. I set my foot in Saigon alone\r\nwithout any relative, but the living encouraged me to stay more decisive and\r\nself - confident. Entering into the university, I understood all worries from\r\nmy mother. My mother tried to borrow money from all sources for me to pay my\r\ntuition. Taking money, I knew that I must never betray her expectation. Despite\r\na single mother nourishing children, she did not let anyone stop schooling.\r\nThis year, my young brother joined in college, which will face more\r\ndifficulties ahead. I promised myself to earn self-living and try to elp him at\r\nmost. Currently, I am tutoring two classes for money to cover the\r\nunder-graduate cost, preparing the thesis, and practising the internship. Both studying\r\nall day and teaching in evenings seemed to squeeze my health, but I do not\r\nallow myself to sleep, but to have lesson revision before going to bed. At\r\ntimes my mom rode a bike in dry sunshine to buy rice for grinding with extra\r\nmoney; sometimes I called her back home, hearing her hoarse voice – a sick\r\nsound but she hid it. When mother was in serious disease, my young brother\r\ncared for all… from looking for medicine, taking physiological saline all\r\nnight, caring for other youngest siblings, etc, though a boy, he can manage\r\nall.

When I returning home, she looked older, thinner and skinny\r\nsunburned. My mother unbelievably weighs merely 35 kilograms. Being able to\r\nearn my living could not afford the schoolfee but from mother’s. Calling home\r\nwith such thing embarrassed my mind. However, she understood and said that the\r\npigs may readily to be sold. Saying so but she has to worry many things\r\nincluding the shool fees for children. Occationally, she sold preserved rice\r\nfor tuition. Just ignoring difficult condition, I am determined to do my best\r\nand not to betray her feeling. I intend to skip a class so that I would\r\ngraduate a semester earlier. I hope to shorten the time to study the second BA\r\nin Ho Chi Minh city Pharmacy University. After that, I will return to my\r\nhometown as my father’s wish and I will live near my mother and help her more.\r\nWhen she got seriously ill, I blamed for myself why I don’t study better to\r\ncome back to her sooner.

This scholarship will be a source of fund to help me with my\r\ntuition for this semester -last semester including tuition and the cost of\r\ninternship. Mom has to care for the brother who is a new student, I wonder if\r\nshe can borrow more loans. This scholarship will create more motivation for my\r\nspirit; help them lessen anxiety for tuition fees as well as some things to\r\nprepare for my internship and preserve time for my study.

\r\n\r\n

I hope to receive your support.

\r\n\r\n

I would show my gratitude.
